We have thought about a developer rating system, but ran into many problems trying to decide what criterion to base it on. We considered cumulative ratings of resources posted, number of resources posted (enourages the posting of crap), other developer's opinions, but they all had problems.

If we stick stricly to the Marketplace, we could implement a feedback system similar to Ebay. For jobs that were completed, both the parties would get an opportunity to rate each other in several categories.

This still would not stop somebody from posting a $40 PER HOUR!! ad, it's just that they would not have a rating, and would be suspect.

On a different subject, I would personally insist on seeing much more evidence of a professional on the other end before I would ever do work for an ad like the one that started this thread. Look for references and past work experience. Insist on seeing a contract before you start.

With the job section in mind, even a cumulative rating stating whether the job was done or the person disappeared would be wonderful.
