40$/hr, and I get a measly 400$ on completion? Do i get a paycheck while working, or do we wait for cash to come in after the project?

Wow, you people want everything, this guy is paying 40/hr. Every other posting has been "volunteer."

I'd be more concerned with project plans and timetables ;)

What are some more details on the jobs, I see the programmer position, but what about the "All Possitions" ad you have in help wanted?

Some sequel to Twisted Metal is the project. Would be interested in hearing more about that as well, have you finished design? Ready to code? or is there more design work to be done?

Finally, how large is the existing team?

That's it for now :)

My name on the credits would almost be enough--though I do need to have some cash to survive. As far as royalties go, the programmers/artists/etc. are getting paid per hour so it is he (zegers) who has the royalty rights--he has to make his investment back somehow. Now, if a person wished to work for free with a portion of RRights later on--perhaps he would be agreeable to this.

I doubt it, but perhaps.

I'm currently a writer for this team and I'm not going to give anything away because of copyrights and stuff, but I was told that programming is about 15% done and that a small playable demo will be ready in about 2 weeks. Now I don't know the extent of this demo, but I can tell you that I've seen some of the car models and the characters I'm creating are very...."twisted". (hehe sorry I just had to do that) Come on and join the fun...I might add the pay isn't bad either :)

Beats me. I'm guessing an investor or a publisher, but maybe he robbed a bank. Oh well, money is money.

I doubt publisher, first game and being an internet company. Maybe he's rich. I wish I was rich, say oh Mom can I have $200,000. Sure no problem.

That would be nice.

Have I got a check for you REALITY

This guy seems all seriouse yet it is day 4 and he has not replied to any of the posts in here yet?

The guy has a "HotMail" account? let me guess, his domain server is in the shop this week.

Word to the wise; Check the people that you are planning on working for. If you program a game for someone that says they will pay you get a written contract, email contracts and online contracts WILL NOT STAND UP IN COURT. and if this is a start up and it goes gold- you are not entitled to any royalties. You got a paycheck. Who cares if your a proggy making $60K a year and the boss buys 3 new Ferraris when the game sells. He made the money- you made that game.

Keep things in perspective a bit and most of all- be safe out there.

40$/hour is a lot of money for a game development job (although within reason for a contracting job). There are very few game companies that will pay $80k / year for a job unless you have a lot of industry experience.

I'd make sure you get a written contract up front, and be extra cautious to boot. It's too easy to get burned these days.

Hey y'all. J Zegers is young. REAL YOUNG. I ICQed with him about this job and, while I won't tell you his age, I will advise you all of something that my attorney told me. You have to be of a certain minimum age to be able to enter into a contract which can be legally upheld in a court of law. Here in Texas, it's eighteen. Again, I won't tell you how old this guy is, but it's enough to say that I didn't pursue things further based on this bit of legal advice, regardless of whether or not he has any money to spend

Yeah I know he's really young. He says pay comes at the end of the month so I've stop working until then. I don't like working without contracts and I've put in at least 4 hours....so if I get paid I'll continue working, if I don't then I'm gone. I'll let you guys know if this is the real deal when payday comes.

How does he know how long you've actually worked?

And do you really trust him with your personal information?

He had told me it's based on the honesty system. Now how many businesses run on the honesty system...well I'm guessing none, but hey he is a rookie. As with my personal info...I think the pays are through paypal, but I'm not exactly sure. Honestly I have a lot of doubts with this, but I figured it's worth a shot since nothing else has come my way. (Time for a shameless plug) Anyone need a writer? I'll work for WAY less then $40 an hour, I'm a hard worker and very dedicated. Just looking to break into the business. :o) Actually I'd work for free (royalties) if I was on a team who was doing something instead of saying they're planning to do something. That seems to be the problem here. Everyone has dreams, everyone wants to fufill their dreams, but nobody wants to work to reach it. I tried (twice really) to establish a team and nothing worked either time. The first time I do blame on myself. It's a lot for one person to handle. The second time I was prepared...just nobody would do anything. I couldn't even get the people to attend meetings, but oh well. Now I'm just out there trying to be a team player and not the team leader. Alright well I've wasted enough of everyones time for now. Like I said in my previous post, if I actually get paid from this person this will be the first place I tell.

About the writer thing.. Would you settle for a %age? Or would you think that is too much of a risk?

Right now I'd say working for a % is fine. I doubt I'm getting paid the $160 I earned from this guy, but I figured I wouldn't, thought I'd just take a chance. But yes, if there was a contract I'd definetly work for a %. Everyone learn from my mistake, don't work without a contract. Even if they say the contract is being made at that moment, don't put in a minute of your time without signing on the line.

I just remembered something. GG guys, how about a developer rating system. I think a while ago this was brought up in another forum, but after my past experience I think it's better then ever. Just something simple. Maybe a 1-10 scale or like a good, average, bad kind of thing. Maybe allow people to leave comments because it really isn't fair. Now everytime I get a paying job offer I'm going to be suspicious and it would be nice if I could see any past problems the person has caused. It would also help the real developers stand out from the rest. Just a thought.

A developer rating system is a great idea, Nick. This board is beginning to suffer from the same problem that ails other devboards, namely the proliferation of "job offers" from younger, inexperienced and underfunded sources. (I'm trying to put this nicely, without turning this into a rant.)

Anyway, I think it's a really great idea. It'd help us all to determine who's offering to pay for our services versus those promising "the thrill of working on a game" as payment.
