Is it possible to try before paying?

by d000hg · in General Discussion · 11/08/2008 (4:47 am) · 14 replies

I was sure I'd sen an option to get a 30 day free/trial license for TGEA but now I can't find it, and wonder if I was dreaming!
Maybe my brain is just not working today, does this exist and if so where can I get it?

You can just download TGEA.
TGEA can be tested with Torque Scripts for modification but your not permitted to sell anything that results from it until you buy a license.
When you purchase the engine you'll be able to download the engine again from your MyAccount page which would be your licensed copy with source code.

Ya you get it but its hard without buying cos you dont get access to the tutorial portal, i emaield 3 or 4 times to try and buy access without the program. As my uni uses it theres no need for me to buy. However in true GG fashion i got 1 bs answer then 3 no replys lol.

@Anthony - Wow, way to post words that insult the person in charge of documentation and tutorials =/

What tutorial portal do you speak of? The TGEA TDN section? I'll be opening that up to the public after I finish scanning for any source code uploads.

If you have more questions and want a direct "no bs" answer (which I don't know how you got), you can talk to me directly.

@d000hg - I think everyone pretty much covered it. You can download a copy of TGEA that is not time limited, and gives you full access to the editors and script system. You will not have source access, but newcomers to TGEA usually do not need to jump directly into the source until they figure out the high level stuff.

Each engine already has public and private forums.

@Anthony - The forums will remain as they are, and it's not really within my realm of control. Opening up the documentation to the public has gone well enough, which is why I want to open up TDN as well. I just need to perform a few tasks first to get it ready.

Yes but scott your forgetting that no one bothers looking at them/ answering questions. Cant wait to see a public TDN to learn from cheers micheal

@Anthony - I'm glad you and the rest of the community are happy with the direction TDN is going. I think it's a long time coming.

I do not want to ruin the cheer, but you and I have had very civil disagreements previously so there's no harm.

You and I are definitely at odds in regard to what the forums are capable of. Scott's answer was very simple and direct, because he and I both have defended the forum potential for years.

I want you click on my name, Scott's name, Phil's name, and search for David Montgomery-Blake. Check the post counts.

David - 8,429
Me - 1,889
Scott - 922
Phillip - 704

That's nearly 12,000 posts between the four of us. The community of GarageGames is unrivaled in many aspects. Not all of our forums are hopping, but the amount of help and information you can get from them is praise-worthy.

However, there are gaps in the information and tutorials. You can't always find what you want in the forums, and you will not always get a reply within a day. Where the forums are weak, I make up with official documentation, TDN, and IRC Hour.

Why i do agree you post alot as do many other members, there is alot that needs skimming or deleting i dont think anyone can disagree. also i think i look at it more as a newbie than you. unless you are experienced it is rather hard to find infomation or a guarenteed explaination. Why i do take into account that the documentation is improving. i think it needs to be aimed more at people starting off. The engine is cheap and good, an ideal package for someone willing to learn. but triffling through the forums is difficult, prephaps my problem is not the forum itself but how it is used. i've found that more and more features are added yet previous ones are not perfected, this is not a stab at the engine or team, but it makes books such as 3d game programming ect difficult to use. I quote you as saying there are gaps in the forums/ docs and i must say i've been impressed with the progress improving them and hopefully will continue thats my 2 cents, and its not ment to offend, I know there are more expensive engines with no forums ect, but i dont believe money shud determine quality of the engine. which gg doesnt do and it is a pat on the shoulder to yourself that you continue to update even if personally i feel that certain aspects shud be updated and not forgotten

ps IRC chat i've not been able to find that for a long time can you direct me?
