Automotive X-Prize challenge to 100 mpg - need a realtime game

by Philip Staiger · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 11/01/2008 (9:10 am) · 2 replies

I'm looking for a way to create - co-develop a game which will be based on realtime events seen at the 2009Automotive X prize. www.xprize.org

We're participating as a contender in the race, and we have a good shot at winning it too: believe it or not, the 100 mpg challenge is no challenge for us.

What I'm looking for is a team of Torque programmers to build and maintain a realtime game experience like nothing seen before: follow the event and build maps and terrains as we go.

We may use TrueSpace 7+ collaborative tools, we might use Archipelis for rapid prototyping of content as we see realtime feeds from Klipsi and other figures. The events starts in New York, that's all we know. Jay Leno and other personalities will kick it off, but the rest is rumors. Might follow route 66, might go anywhere else. Probably a few months long. They just pushed back the deadline by 2 months, so we should know by March/Aril where it's going through.

Sure thing is, this will be a unique experience. & there will be sponsors to help pay some of the bills.

If you have the knowledge, a passion for torqgue (literally) and experience with car racing games with funny looking vehicles.... and some good ideas, please let us know.

Not sure about the Project itself, but I am a user of TS7+ and wanted to add my endorsement, its a now FREE program, and its very powerful with many many free videos in its use.

TS7 has a full collaberative interface feature where seperate users can join a "Space" to work on the same stuff real time, so a 3d Modeller can model something while a textural artist can say "Hey put a fold in there" and my textures will look real life sweet.

Good luck Phillip!

Thanks Chad, great feedback. Indeed I have known about TS for a good while. But I have not used the collaborative side of v7.x. Is it good? Easy to use?

The little bit of experience I have with TS dates back mostly to v5.2 and 6 when we did a collaborative effort for tutorials with Caligari, such as

I currently use Carrara with its CAD imports (STEP, IGES) for the models coming from SolidWorks. Do you know if TS7.x has good importers for these CAD formats? I think I downloaded that latest version shortly after it became free but haven't done more than to install it and a quick interface check.

The importers from Carrara 6 Pro work alright, but my models could use a little structuring by material. PErhaps something I need to do on the SW export, or perhaps it's just Carrara not seeing it, so I wonder about TS imports in that respect.

By-the-way, we now have the website for Exen: www.exentechnologies.com

(n.b. I created the intro animation completely in PD Pro - the grand-daddy of PD Particles available here at GG too).
