Bug: Material Editor texture references showing up ..
by Fleeky · in Artist Corner · 10/22/2008 (8:38 pm) · 7 replies
For some reason when a material is applied to a mesh i am exporting and the material has a few textures applied to it the exporter will always export these reference names even if i delete the reference in the texture panel ..
it usually shows up in the console as a missing texture, and this can lag the game slightly upon spawning the problem dts.
anyone else experience this ?

i found a way around this , which is to make a new material and name the messed up one something else and your new one what you want the material to be. but was hoping this wouldnt be needed.

Exactly, so when it goes to load the materials it will be missing one and you will see this in the console and sometimes as a slight hiccup on model load. i found a way around this , which is to make a new material and name the messed up one something else and your new one what you want the material to be. but was hoping this wouldnt be needed.

the problem im working with is that if you have two texture in your material panel.. one is diffuse the other normal map. when i go to export in the exporter's material panel it mentions only the material name which makes sense. but when i export the model for some reason the exporter will throw in the texture names as material references. this is not something i can control in the exporter's material panel as i only see one material name reference.
also if you want to have everything done in the exporter's material window shouldnt you have the ability to create a new material?
and as a last aside the material panel is quite powerful imo ecpecially with the glsl shading mode would it be possible to translate the material panel's settings into your exporter material panel?

I usually would just use the uv window for defining the material name stuff. but with the advent of glsl shading mode in 2.48 i am increasingly doing most of my tweaking in the materials window to get the right look and such. the problem im working with is that if you have two texture in your material panel.. one is diffuse the other normal map. when i go to export in the exporter's material panel it mentions only the material name which makes sense. but when i export the model for some reason the exporter will throw in the texture names as material references. this is not something i can control in the exporter's material panel as i only see one material name reference.
