Unable to even install TorqueX demo

by John Paduch · in Torque X 2D · 10/21/2008 (7:52 pm) · 6 replies

Maybe this has been covered somewhere, but with the long list of topics, I haven't seen it.

I have XNA Studio 2.0 installed, as well as Visual Studio 2005 installed (with SP1), but when I try to even run the installer for the TorqueX demo, it tells me I need C# Express Edition and XNA Studio Express Edition.

The problem here is obvious, so what gives?

The problem is that Torque X requires Visual C# Express, even if you have Visual Studio Pro.

Ah, ok.. I didn't want to install anything else until I knew for sure. Thanks.

I thought that the TX 2.0 installer worked fine when installing on non-Express versions...but the Platformer Kit's installer still had that requirement even on the 2.0 version where Express was not necessary.

Apparently not, as once I installed C# Express, the TX installer had no problem going forward.

Not that I agree with that requirement, honestly it makes no sense whatsoever to me, but hey...

This was the TX 2.0 installer and not the 3D beta, right? Hmmmm. I probably had some old registry gunk that was allowing it to install then. I had 2.0 working fine but the Platformer Kit wouldn't install and was throwing a really unhelpful error.

Yeah, it was the standard TX2 installer, not an add-on.
