TGEA/TorqueX and RTS Starter Kit

Hello All,
I was wondering if there has been a port from the 1.5 engine RTS starter kit to TGEA / TorqueX. I am planning to buy either TGEA or TorqueX and the port for either engine would definitely swing my decision.
If there is no port, how hard would you say porting the 1.5 code to work on TGEA would be?
Thanks for any help.
Regards,
Will

I have a question about the kit. Can work with it using TorqueScript to make a commercial game? And, how easy would it be to make a RPG?

I was thinking about getting the kit, but do I also have to buy the engine and builder as well? Help?

It looks like you need to own TGE 1.5 before you can purchase the RTS Starter Kit. Porting to TGEA will take some effort, but should be easier to do with TGEA 1.8.

I just want to build a game for personal use. So the kit doesn't need the builder, just the engine? What I would like to do is program a game while I'm in Iraq. With the TGE, will I be able to make a complete game, that say, runs on its on CD rom? Sorry for the questions, very new to all of this.Corey

You mention a builder, which leads me to believe you are thinking about TorqueX or TGB.
There are two different RTS kits. One was developed by GarageGames built on TGE. Since it was released, it has been ported to TGE 1.5.2 by the community. It can be ported to TGEA, but that will require additional work. It is not compatible with TorqueX or TorqueX Builder.
The other has not been released yet, but it is geared toward TorqueX. This is being developed by another team, so I do not know any other specifics about release date or prerequisites.
Either engine can be compiled and distributed to other PCs. You can do this via CD ROM or digital distribution (online). You can actually download the TGE, TGEA, and TorqueX demos and give them a test run to see how you like them.
Btw, when you say you will be in Iraq, will you be there serving for the armed forces? If so, thank you. I wish you a safe journey and return. I'd like to see whatever you develop, so keep me informed. Feel free to e-mail me directly.

Right now I'm working with the 3D Game Programming book that works with the Torque game engine. What I'm not sure is that if I need to buy the engine, and the TGB, and the kit to be able to make my own games. At this point, I have no plans to make a software company and no plans to sell anything of mine.
I just want to have all my 'tools' so that if I need them I have them. So the kits by GG only need the builder and not the engine? The website isn't clear for newbies such as myself.
Thanks so much,
Corey

Thanks Michael for all the information. I'm not sure what porting means as I am just beginning.Right now I'm working with the 3D Game Programming book that works with the Torque game engine. If you are this new to game development and Torque, there's a laundry list of things to cover. Are you dead set on making an RTS, or are you open to suggestion for lighter projects?

@Corey - Porting means taking code from one project and moving it to another. Specifically in our conversation, I'm referring to taking code from the RTS Kit (built on a previous version of TGE) and moving it over to the newer engines. This requires modifying source code (C++) to get it to work, as it is no longer a drag-and-drop routine. If you are this new to game development and Torque, there's a laundry list of things to cover.
