Textures not showing up and object drawing wrong?

Could somebody help me with a problem I am having with blender?
i have a large object (around 6000 polys), it was build in Wings 3D, and is textured. When I export the model as .3ds and import it into blender, it looks fine. The model is textured and is shaded correctly, (The polygons blend into each other, they don't have that effect where you can see each individual face) When I export the file as .dts, put the object in the items folder, put a 512 by 512 texture in the same folder with the same name, (The object is called test.dts and the texture is called text.png) the obect will load into the game but it is not textured and it is not shaded correctly (I can see each polys individual face). If you know what Im talking about, could you help me?

Do the textures show up in the materials tab in DTS export GUI?

Did you export it with the material set up as text.png or did you rename it from something else? the texture does not have to be named the same thing as the .dts object it can be called anything as long as thats what you used for the material name.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I went back to the original model and named the material test, put it in blender, named everything I could "Test", tried tweaking a few things exported it, and got the same result. I'l have to keep trying to figure this out.
