Baseball MMO

I am making a baseball MMO. I am doing the models and animation in 3dsmax. I have allready got working player models exported and in showtool.
I have a couple stadiums also modelled. Rather nice low poly stadiums. Quite a bit of art also on hand.
The long term goal is instant action and or server client.
The game will always be free to play and probably have some add revenue and sales of online items perhaps.
The game will be server client, master server.
I expect its a couple year project since there is likely going to be just a few dedicated team members.
Compensation is ownership dependent on sweat equity.
Persistant online baseball characters I think it sounds like a fun game to make. I can do quite a bit of everything, modelling, animation, artwork, webdesign, database work. It would be perfect for instant action I think.
But I was looking for a person who might think baseball is fun to jump in and help.

I like this idea: A sports MMO. I don't understand why we have not seen allot of this yet. Hope this works out for you!

If I were still a community member, and not an employee, I'd be helping out as much as I could. I hope you are able to get a team together. I'll gladly follow the project and promote it if it reaches gold status.

@IGotBigBunz - For this post alone, I am not speaking as a GarageGames employee. I'm speaking as a gamer and major baseball fan. This is an awesome concept. It's new, original, and very cool in my opinion. Persistent baseball characters? AWESOME.If I were still a community member, and not an employee, I'd be helping out as much as I could. I hope you are able to get a team together. I'll gladly follow the project and promote it if it reaches gold status.

I have to third this emotion. Not that I'm a big sports fan, but it's way overdue to have this in the MMO genre. I mean, really, why didn't anyone catch on to creating one of those neighborhood ballparks or something? Crap, the social features you can put in there as well would make it a nice earner. Maybe someone needs to do Fantasy Football Online (FFO)...

Since its a european company, theres no Baseball "yet" ;) but lots of other sports you will be able to play. Its closed beta at the moment.

I think a sports MMO has been overdue for a long time as well, the teamplay, leagues all of that jazz make it predestined for online gaming and braggin roights :)Theres only one company I know of thats working on a really sweet lookin one:

By the way I agree this game is kind of like empireofsports, except with baseball only. Maybe a bit less "cartoony" and more realistic.

Uhh theyre played online its unoriginal unless he means you live a out the life of the player

An MMO implies that the amount of people able to play in the world simultaneously is very high- usually in the hundreds, or even thousands for some servers. It is not necessary to live out the life of a player (which would make it an MMORPG), but simply to participate in games with lot's of other players around, and not just in the fashion of joining a game online for a few minutes and then returning to a chat room. Otherwise, you really could file it under the heading of "done before"- but even then, it doesn't mean that the game shouldn't be done. Most games that sell the best are not original, and most original games don't sell the best.

remember this i don't think you can use real teams because EA purchased the baseball franchise

Yeah but its not original at all it copies the co-op baseball and vs. baseball they have on x-box live already, although i guess it would be original for PC. Well go ahead and try it, now that i think about it its not that bad.remember this i don't think you can use real teams because EA purchased the baseball franchise

Btw, EA owns the NFL license. The MLB license is not exclusive, as you have 2K sports creating their own games. You would need to worry about the actual MLB coming after the developer, as everything about the MLB is under copyright.
However, baseball itself is not exclusive. I can make a Mutant League Baseball if I want, just as IGot can make an MMO.

Way back when, certain caveman tribes would hunt together (co-op) and fight rival tribes (vs). With that in mind, every fighting game, RTS, and some FPS could count as unoriginal. See the point? I would like to be a Free Agent and let teams pick me up as needed kind of like Exsteel does, did you plan real life style baseball or powerups etc?
I wanted to do a Live action Golf game, you know where multiple players play at the same time with powerups and as fast / slow as they want, hit the other player with your ball, drive by golf cart clubbings etc.
(yeah I liked Happy Gilmore what of it? :))

I had had a similar idea to this once a while back, I was a little stumped at the point of teams/walk in players/npc players (as in how to set it up in a nice way), have you already covered that aspect in your gameplan? AI will play the other positions.
No powerups or anything like that. You player will be persistant meaning he will level up.
Thats about it.

Chad this will be pretty much straight up baseball, with 3 on 3 being the smallest game. AI will play all other positions. Some one will have to play pitcher. So a six person game will be the smallest you can have.AI will play the other positions.
No powerups or anything like that. You player will be persistant meaning he will level up.
Thats about it.
