How much different is Torque 1.4 from 1.5+?

If I want to learn the latest Torque before 1.5 (which costs to get the new one of 1.5+), will I be able to later convert my skills to Torque 1.5+? What I am really asking is if the newer Torque is different from 1.4.9? Because I would really like to learn Torque first using my $100 version and then upgrade to 1.5+, once I got some idea of what I am doing. Will I be able to do that?

NOTE: I plan to self teach myself from "The Game Programmers Guide to Torque by Edward F. Maurina III"

EDIT: I would also like to know where I can find the information on the disclaimer of using Torque (Example: Having to show the logo before the game starts and stuff like that. )
