Particle/Percipitation Question

Hey all. So I have been adding some percipitation into my game aswell as particals. But now I find I have an idea that i'm not sure how to go about and was wondering if anyone else has done something similar or can help me with the concept for my idea. What I have so far is a fire partical emitting on some models. I also have some percipitation that I was trying to go for a floating debris of ashe effect. So what I was wondering is if anyone has every made percipitation actually have effects like particles and be used like a light source. Is such a thing possible with torque? Because from what I can tell so far with my fire in the particle emitter theres no way to put out light. What I was aiming for was my percipitation to be almost like a weak flame floating in the wind and giving off light when near the ground. So far can't seem to figure anything out even with merging different enviroment objects.
So any ideas or concepts for this are welcome.
