Smart Packer - easy and secure content protection

by Michael · in Artist Corner · 09/12/2008 (8:49 am) · 3 replies

Hi everyone,

Finally Smart Packer is released! An easy to use and secure content protection tool.

Smart Packer compresses and encrypts the selected application folder and subfolders into one executable.
Create your own custom made installer/launcher in a few minutes. Use your own background image and sound.
With Secure Zone enabled all files and folders will be stored in a secure environment which can only
be accessed by this executable.

Build - Install - Run, it's easy like that.

Feel free to take a look on our site www.smartpacker.nl for more information.

Greetings,

Michael

Sounds good, but a quick search with Google and I stumbled on a forum in which someone already found out how to bypass the apparently very weak protection. All the author of Smart Packer was able to was to threaten with legal actions instead of accepting the weakness of the software and asking for help to make the protection more secure. Seems like someone just tries to make some quick money with the fear of others that their media could be stolen. And, of course, after he (the author of Smart Packer) noticed that what he wrote in the forums could damage his/the program's/the company's reputation, he quickly removed all of his posts. That's not how one does business in a serious way.

Hi Hans,

I asked if they would contact me directly about the issues. Instead they kept posting about it.
Because we have spent a lot of time developing it we wanted to protect our investment. It isn't really a matter of making quick money.
The issues were about a commercial component we bought so we decided first to inspect the issues further before posting new items and removed the previous posts.
We are already taking action concerning the issues and really hope people give us benefit of the doubt before judging on that thread.

Regards,

Michael
