Anyone interested in programming classes?

Would anyone be interested in programming classing if I started teaching them for a small fee?
Some examples could be
- Intro to C++ - learn the basics of C++ and OOP
- C++ Programming - advanced topics of C++.. maybe creation of a small game throughout the course
- Intro to Java - learn the basics of Java and OOP
- Java Programming - advanced topics of Java.. maybe creation of a small game throughout the course
- Intro to Linux Programming - Installing a linux distro and intro to Linux and Programming
- Linux Programming - advanced topics - SDL, OpenGL
...possibly something torque related
A little more info. I'd plan to provide forums and a chat room so that questions could be asked. The classes themselves would work on following lecture notes and working your way through examples and problems. Also there would be FAQ regarding the classes and I would be available most of the time in chat to help people. Also I could provide Personal Tutoring for probably another $50 so you would be guarenteed to learn a class for $100 but the personal tutoring should not be needed.
As far as prices I'm thinking somthing along the lines of 50 bucks for a class so its affordable.
Note: Specialized Advanced classes are available at a higher price and a minimum class requirement. Something along the lines of Per Pixel Lighting/Bumpmapping integration into torque or something.
if anyone is interested let me know. If there is something you'd like to see a class on that can possibly be arranged as I could have forgot something obvious.

Have you asked 'game institute' about teaching?

I would take more courses at GI, but am fearful that I would be waisting my money on a course that is not even par for the course.
Heck, I would definatly like to see a course on 3D math (might do the Gi one *shrug*) with a follow up course on per pixel shading/bumb mapping etc..

I agree with Ryan, asking GI they can definatly use the help! I have taken 3 courses of which 2 were absolutly usefull and the third was crap due to the instructor being absolutly worthless.I would take more courses at GI, but am fearful that I would be waisting my money on a course that is not even par for the course.

Just of curiosity, which courses did you take with them, and which ones did you find useless? I took the OpenGL one, and the AI. The first 6 weeks of the OpenGL one were good, but then the prof just disappeared for the last 6 weeks.. The AI one was also quite good (it was only six weeks long).
Tim, I agree with Ryan and Ron. It might be very worthwhile for you to go ask them if they need any teachers.

I have taken the C++, DirectInput and 3D gaming with OpenGL.
The first two were spectacular, the teacher (Stan Trujillo) was on the ball and always available. On the other hand, The 3D opengl course just sucked, I had numerous questions that never were replied to. I mentioned it to the GI staff and basicly felt as tho I was brushed off. I have heard a lot of negative feedback regarding the teacher in question (Alex Ferrier).

That's nice... but I think Spock's point was if anyone would be interested if he would be doing some online programming courses (C++,Java,Torque), and not what other courses or schools are around... ;))

I never was any good in math, especialy the higher end shiat; which would tend to make me less of a sucessful game coder :(

heck, if he had a decent 3D math course that was less than the $95 fee Gi is asking...I would be interested. I never was any good in math, especialy the higher end shiat; which would tend to make me less of a sucessful game coder :(

I consider myself to be a damned fine programmer, but if you can convince me that you really know your stuff on a specific topic then I'm willing to pay to learn. I'm always willing to learn.
I've never taken a GI course (in fact, I just now heard about them), but my main problem with most courses is that everyone moves at different speeds and most of the students spend too much time idling. I expect that in advanced courses this would be a problem even with very small class sizes of under 5.

Yes Ron, (sorry Spock...still offtopic), I found Alex Ferrier was a sub-par teacher, specifically for just never being around.

I would be interested in the - Intro to C++ - learn the basics of C++ and OOP, and then later classes focused on game programming.

I already know C, C++, HTML, VB, Delphi, ASP, dot this and dot that (not really)...
... so you can see that I already know enough to make me officially, if not certifiably, past stoopid... a jack of many trades, a master of none i think it's called...
But I would definitely be interested in a course to get me up to speed with Torque if anyone is considering such a undertaking.

Sorry Tim, but I'd be interested only if it were a Torque programming course... or a Torque Primer of sorts...I already know C, C++, HTML, VB, Delphi, ASP, dot this and dot that (not really)...

Paying someone to point me in the right direction on things relating to Torque would be useful, generalized programming languages and techniques would not, but that is just me.

I would also be more inclined if the information was extremely Torque specific. I have no trouble learning massively available generalized information.Paying someone to point me in the right direction on things relating to Torque would be useful, generalized programming languages and techniques would not, but that is just me.

On a side note, I'd be more than happy to learn any of the above C++ classes also. I'd be interested in all of those listed.

Preach on Jarrod. I'd sell my left nut to gain Torque training classes etc. As of now, I'm in pace to lose all my hair, which is not a good thing. I'd gladdly pay $100 (yes I'd need tutoring) to gain Torque specific knowledge, regardless of how long it would take to learn. If you arent planning on doing this on a broad scale, let me know I'd pay you just to learn! On a side note, I'd be more than happy to learn any of the above C++ classes also. I'd be interested in all of those listed.

As far as formal classes I won't be pursuing it as it would be too few to take them. But I can do private tutoring. It would be less like a class (less formal) and be X number of hours covering X amount of stuff for X amount of money. if you are interested contacting me and we can see about filling those 3 Xs to mine and your advantage.-Tim aka Spock
