Getting Noticed

Well, If been on the forums, and it seems that the best way to sell ANY game at any sort of good rate, is to be noticed as a good game that other people want to play. In the ways of MMOs, or just even little online games, its getting harder, because its getting FLOODED with all different kinds of everything and dosen't get noticed. If its killer awsome, it has an excellent chance of being lost. Selling on the Xbox 360 is also getting harder, as well as selling a PC game online. I don't go poking around the interent just to find games, because there is a better chance of being virused and have paypal stolen from me.
So...how to get noticed so far seems to be to put it on a already well known website. Ads don't really look to good either (have YOU gone to any odd pop-up or flashy side-bar yet? No? theres my point. Becasue if you wouldn't, who would?).
Anyone got ANY sort of idea on improving your chance, or will we indies just toss it out there with our fingers crossed?
(Maybe its just my deep pessimism talking)

An outrageous personality is a good substitute if you don't have a great product (see:Too Human) :)

@Christian : True actually. But so far, supposedly on some statictics I read said that most game only make $300-$600 per month, spiraling downward eventually, on this site. But that still good numbers for a first commercial game.
Other than that, I'd still like some help from this community that got them going good. I really want to get this game dev. train going, I'm just seeing what other people did to market a game and have some sucess at it. From what I'm seeing, some other people have the same questions that I do...maybe they're questions will get answered too.
EDIT : I read this on the IPhone liscensing that a bunch of people posted on, and that what they said...not a 100% sure that they are 100% accurate

@Ronny : Well, sometimes, outrageous personality can get outright stupid sometimes, if done wrong. Your going away from my point. 70k+ people spreading the word seems a fairly good base to me.
