Anyone using the Terrain Editor "Select" action?

Hey guys.

I'm looking for some feedback from the community on this...

The TerrainBlock Terrain Editor has a special "Select" action:

It allows you to select some terrain samples then adjust the elevation of all selected samples at once using the "Adjust Selection" action. As far as i can tell this is all the "Select" action can be used for.

I've never found and need for it myself, but has anyone else out there used it?

For me "Add Dirt", "Excavate", and "Adjust Height" do the job nicely on their own and the "Select" action isn't very useful.

Is there something specific you use it for?

Would anyone miss it and why?

I appreciate any feedback you can give as it will affect future Torque updates. ;)

Actually, your description cames very handy, Ive never payed attention to that function. So technically, I will not miss it, but the functionality that you describe sounds like usefull indeed. Is there a need to left it out?

Note: I didnt worked much on terrain editing, so I trust your judgment much more than mine, if you think the same can be achieved by other means.

Note 2: Given the statements above, had this post made any sense at all?

I use the select option quite a bit in fine tuning the terrain. Without it, I would have limited control over individule parts of the terrain. The regular mouse pointer is ok for large areas, but almost worthless for small areas as the mouse can move sideways while you are adjusting the terrain.

@Novak - The issue is that its buggy and its an odd tool that doesn't fit the pattern of all the others.

The feature it seems to provide is the same as "Adjust Height" with a mask to have it only effect certain terrain samples.

A general terrain selection mask would be really cool and useful, but thats not what it does.

@Mike - Thanks that's the type of feedback i was wanting to hear. Is my description above about what it does accurate to your experience?

Anyone else?

The only thing I've really found it useful for is highlighting a section of terrain to see exactly where the edges and vertices are. Prolly not what it was intended for... *shrug* =)

What would be nice is perhaps a toggle that would show edges and vertices on the entire terrain; then I'd probably wouldn't miss the Select function.

@Kevin - I believe Matt suggested that we add in the editor a way to toggle on the wireframe of the terrain. That should solve your issue nicely.

Isn't that already provided in the bar that they added a few releases ago?

@Mikael: "...bar that they added..." Bar? They? Wha...?
