I'm not able to import art assets into my project. After selecting all files
of the boombot directory of the fps demo I've tried to create a new
folder and got an unhandled exception:

Thorsten, are you able to reproduce this issue importing from other folders than the boombot, and does changing the folder name/length seem to affect anything?

I can reproduce this as well... one additional note is that there are no folders created (models, etc) like in the picture from the quick setup.

Changing the folder length works. I copied the boombot folder to something like D:\tmp\boombot
and after that I was able to import all of the boombot folder.

Great feedback, I'll take a closer look at that one and create a default target folder, called "Models".

Also when clicking on the "New Folder Button" the application will crash with an out of index exception.

New beta version:

Importing works fine now. But I have some questions about the part "Selecting destination file location":
1. Is it the intention to store the imported assets under one of the folders "Models", "Images" or "Shader Effects"? I'm not able to create a folder on the same level as say "Models".
2. After I created a folder it would be nice to delete it or to move it.

Good point, both of em. I will add them as feedback into the project tracker.
