Hi,
Here is a test screen shot to see whether or not if i like the view.
It is a 2d platform game with a slight view change to give it the illusion of 3d. Although the player still just moves left, right jump, jump down as though it is in 2d space.
I know there are a few errors with platforms not touching fully. The clouds are from the rainy day tutorial so they will change soon.
Thank You for your views

There are some artifacts where the upper level meets the bottom level near the right edge of the screen. The character looks pretty aliased too, but this really does look awesome for a TGB game, keep up the good work.

Yeah there are a few errors - these graphics are a 1st attempt so will only improve :)
The character is a base character from poser so once i get some decent walking animation/clothing props will have a much better character :)
More to come soon I hope

I like the view personally. It's different, and could certainly open up some cool avenues for you. With that view you wouldn't even need to do the cutaway of the ground if you didn't want to.. and it would look really cool doin some major paralaxing. I suggest using the paralax behaviour to start.. and add a few more of those blocks and make them move at different speeds to give you a really cool depth feel to it.

Surely the perspective will look wrong when the screen scrolls?

The perspective may change still depending on certain aspects but i still aim to have a similiar view :)

That would generally depend on the background. The perspective may change still depending on certain aspects but i still aim to have a similiar view :)

The paralaxing fluidity is totally dependant on the number of layers you have.. you could break that square up into 1000 layers and it would appear 3d. I wouldn't suggest it.. but I'm just saying that I have done that kind of thing in a game I was working on for like 300 hrs and it worked pretty good.-nic
