Classic Starsiege Tribes

Just wondering, and I've looked everywhere even in these forums, does anyone know the proper way to create new models for Tribes 1? I'm using 3DS MAX 9 and have the DTS exporter installed but for some reason whenever I export my models and run the game it tells me that the server is running artwork that I don't have and points to the model Im trying to get to work. I also have Milkshape but I get the same results. I know its a really old game and there is probably something special I have to do. Anyone know what that is? And sorry for bringing back ancient history here.

In the changes between Tribes and Tribes 2 and onwards to the Torque engine the .dts format has changed quite a bit. It is possible to use Tribes 2 shapes in Torque. However the Tribes 1 .dts's are a different story. You could possibly get lucky with a hex editor but as far as I know you would need something like the 2.5 version of Max and a dts exporter from that time period in order to make new models for Tribes.

If you're wanting to make .dis shapes I think that an exporter still exists for Worldcraft.

Any idea how to go about getting Max 2.5? lol And what do you mean hex editor? I know what a hex editor is yes but how would I use one to make a dts file? Thank you for your response by the way. Much appreciated.

I think that version of Max is long gone. That was something like 8-9 years ago. I've seen it mentioned before about being able to use a hexeditor to fix up those old Tribes models, or even constructing one from scratch, but i wouldn't know where even to begin. You could possibly try asking around a few of the still remaining Starsiege Tribes Communities such as: Tribes One or the Annihilation mod community.

I miss those old Tribes days (modding T1 is how I found about GG and Torque) but if you want to create new content for Tribes you might be better off modding Tribes 2.

You can prototype a Tribes-like game fairly easily in TGE or TGEa, with access to the source code, but the biggest hurdle is content.

Bummer... I hate T2 with a passion lol. T1 was truly the only good Tribes game in my opinion, especially with the release of HUD Bot which allowed 32bit texturing. Ill look around and maybe even contact Autodesk to see if they can point me in the direction of Max 2.5 and Ill also look into the other Tribes communities about the hex business. Thanks for your help. If I find anything out Ill be sure to post it, for those who care anyway lol.
