Vista > No Hardware Acceleration Support

Hi guys, I think this is a pretty significant thing to think about concerning the engine...

I have tons of beta testers who are running Vista. Apparently Vista doesn't manage hardware acceleration the way it used to in XP, and in many cases, hardware acceleration is always disabled for Vista users... with no way to turn it on.

So... what do we do? If our games require hardware acceleration to draw quickly and all of these Vista boxes don't have this feature enabled any more?

Maybe I'm missing something simple? Or there is a feature to address the problem on the way?

Thanks for listening to my rant! :D

The only hardware acceleration I have heard of Vista specifically not supporting is soundcard hardware acceleration. Any computer physically capable of running Vista should at the very least have DirectDraw acceleration I would think.

Do you have a specific beta tester who can provide some information on their system? I would be curious to hear about the issue.

Here's a couple pages of Vista complaints from users:

I'm not sure if Vista is using hardware acceleration that isn't detected by TGB, or what. The problem seems to happen with players who updated older machines (notebooks) from XP to Vista themselves.

I'll send you the email thread from the player I'm working with. Hopefully it will shed some light.
