Is the Artist page supposed to work?

by Devin Passage · in Torque Game Engine · 06/17/2008 (12:09 am) · 11 replies

Is this page

http://www.garagegames.com/developer/torque/artist/

supposed to be up? because none of the links work. I'm trying to download the max2dts exporter, and can't find it. I want one that exports static shapes and bipeds(the Dark Industries Plus and Pro plugins do not seem to export the meshes for bipeds no matter what I do, the other one works fine buuuttt...) and doesn't need to use UnMessDTS (....it has to use unMessDTS and that screws up some of the models).

any seasoned Torque pros care to share their plugins? My artists are using Max 7.

@Devin LP - This issue actually falls into two different areas: Website and Documentation. Now, David Montgomery Blake (site admin) has already mentioned that there will be a redesign of the site.

The Artist section is actually a documentation page, which involves the doc team (which I'm a part of). Despite having a programmer background, I am definitely dedicating a chunk of my time to working on docs for artists. You guys need a lil' more love in my opinion =)

Sorry for the long explanation, but I wanted this statement to be here in case other readers show up. To answer your request directly, send me an e-mail (found in my profile) and I can give you all the updated exporters.

Also, if you have TGEA, you can find updated docs and working links for all the exporters as well.

I believe I wrote you about this yesterday or Sunday. You can download the all_versions version from TDN.

Sure, but it doesnt help when that's the first site that people see (that and accessing TDN is an inconvience since you have to log in again).

To keep a long bitchy comment short short, you guys really need to just update the links on the page so that they work (and add in the Max 2008 exporters Magnus compiled to the list). No excuses for doing otherwise are necessary.

No disagreement from me, Logan.

You are not alone in your opinion, as stated above =)

Yep, agreed. (the latest compile is for max 2009 and not 2008 though, the max9 one should work fine in 2008 =). For whoever does the updating of the artists page, if you don't have the 2009 exporter already, just let me know.

And while you're at it, you should probably also remove the "Max 9.0 64 Bit" exporter, or at least mention that it is the Dark Industries one and not the one that actually works properly. Mentioning that the max9 exporter works with 2008 would be good too.

I've updated the DTS feature chart with the 9-2008 and 2009 exporters by the way. This is still not a wonderful place to keep it though so someone should still get around to get the artists page updated.

Hello all. I'd like to take this opportunity to invite anyone who wishes to discuss documentation for artists to a recently created thread:

Official Artist Documentation Feedback.

Make sure you read the first post, as it fully explains the purpose of the thread.

See ya there =)
