Will the install files have registration codes you have to type

by JoeSmith · in Torque Game Engine · 06/07/2001 (2:14 pm) · 4 replies

You know, the code you type in to make sure you actually have the CD file with you and to make sure the game isn't played on more than one computer.

How will this work? Will there be something like the WON ids for HL so only one person with that install CD can play online at the same time...

How will the game and GG handle this??

Thanks.

I think this is largely your responsibility, not GG's.

If you're talking about a published retail game, then I'm sure the publisher will work with you on putting together a standard CD protection scheme.

well how about for electronic distribution ...

I guess we could program something in

I also hope GG releases a list of all the e-mails of people who buy our game so we can give our paying customers updates ...

We're not going to waste any time on this sort of thing. Real pirates will blow by any protection you put on there, and provide it sans protection to all the wannabe haxors out there.

Also, I've got no time to waste managing a key tracking & authentication system either (not to mention we're not working on an online deathmatch game anyway). So unless GG provides some copy protection that drops in error free and free of charge there's no interest there either. I'd rather work on the game than waste time preventing people from stealing it who will steal it anyway.

GG will provide some solution to this, whether it's CD keys, registration codes, online play only, etc... We've been talking about it for a while now, but haven't settled on anything yet. Once the V12 is out and things settle down a little we'll get back on it and explore the different options.
