Game Bootcamp / Lab idear

Let me just put this out here and see what happens :)

Since I don't see much happening with the Torque Bootcamps..maybe because more schools are teaching torque..etc? plus the web torqueschool site..

What if I offered a day or week long bootcamp...say in the day or evenings here in San Diego..would any of you be interested? Or it could even be a live online class. Mainly geared as a Hands On Lab Session.

One Day - $100.00
- A live lab that teaches you all the basics from scripting to art pipeline and more in between..

Five Full Days - $500.00
- Teach you enough hands on to create a working 3D game in a Week!

Five Half Days $250.00 (evenings)
- Teach you enough hands on to create a simpler working 3D game in a Week!

Obviosly this is very cheap compared to 1000.00-3500.00 bootcamps for tech training. But I think I can get this going if there is interest :)

also another idea is to create a class that walks you through all aspects of finishing and creating your own custom game in the process. Which can then be used as your prototype to pitch to a publisher or just to polish up and sell online.

Of course you cannot expect to create a full fledge BF2, WarCraft 3...WOW..etc. But with a 5 day class well shoot for 5 Core Features that will be developed for your game along with some content, coding and a gui. Plus I plan on assisting as much as possible in getting you to complete a working project.

Plus you get the thrill of joining a group of students doing the same thing. A great team atmosphere.. and not a long time to commit to a class. For a decent price.. all live...Though Future DVDs may be available of classes.

And as a added bonus, if you buy one seat you get one free!! A great choice to split the cost with your best friend.

Well???

Sounds like a pretty cool setup!

Contact Davey Jackson about this. He's our ed contact here. He's got a TON of knowledge that could help streamline such a curriculum!

How about possibly corridinating it with the Torque school? www.torqueschool.com rather then having yet another alternative school. GG should offer those classes in a more convient form in the first place imo. It would be a great source of pride and learning i think. Some of us in say Canada or overseas would never be able to make it to San Diego. (off topic- i used to go to school at Nestor Elementary as a kid).

A DVD or a similar setup or a contributing to the torque school to make it available online would be a great task. if you can teach a class in 5 days to make a working torque game, you can surely create it as a manual and/or dvd for those that wouldnt ever make the Torque BootCamps or be able to travel to Sandiego (the airfair alone and hotel/food/renting a car/ect would be more then enough this day and age to consider the costs.)

Shame you don't have a branch school in Houston...I'm new to Torque, but with 30 years of sofeware development behind me...this is really fun.
