Need Opinions on RPG Genre

I am in the process of developing a RPG game and in need of some Opinions. Basically I need to get peoples opinions on the RPG Genre as far as the PC. Now as far as i see it there are 3 type of RPG game, Single Player, Multi Player and MMO. Let me say first of all this is NOT a MMO and no plans to turn it into one. So that leaves Single and Multi Player.

Now one why of implementing Single and Multi Player would be similar to Dungeon Runners/Guild Wars where you log into a server(to player either mode since they are really the same) and only in towns do you have multiple human player and can can group up to go into the instanced areas(multi player) of solo on your own(single player). If we did something like this we would have the client for free and a same fee to pay per month(like 7-8 dollars).

Another option it to have a purely single player game. Now the industry seems to be moving more into the MMORPG/MORPG but for me I don't see any major benefit to that model. This would also allow for users to play the game without an internet connect which i think is good.

The third option i see is implementing a single and multi player in the game like diablo. You could player single player in both mode like you could player single player in the first way but also have the online feature(would still have to cost a small fee for the server and stuff if you want multi player support but i would be interested in how blizzard does multi player with like diablo which is they host games on there servers or just store the player character on there server and the game instance itself is run on the user computer(if anyone knows please let me know)). This would involve a little more time than the other 2 but that is because they are basically implementing them both.

If anyone could give me which game they would buy and if they choose the third option, if you would pay for multi player support, and why choose 1 option over the other would be a big help for me. Thanks.

I'll take a bit at this post. Role Playing Games whether single player, LAN, or MMO depends on the story depth.
A single player game for example, would have enough content for a player to complete and win the game in say 1 months time.
The Local Area Network version for multi-player would have enough content for a group of 3 or more to eventually complete.
A MMO is the most content intensive version which must cater to every player in group or solo and is the hardest to do because of the extensive content that must be made.

I'm not one of those to tell you to start an fps first, or one of those that rolls their eyes because the letters MMO exist in a post. On the contrary, I'm the sort of person that doesn't under-estimate the ability of a person or their team, I only suggest that you start with a great story.

RPG's are successful when the Story can maintain a players interest until the end of the game when the player is at the final goal. Similar to great movies.. the best is saved for last.

Consider your story and determine if that story has enough content for 1 player or many players. This will help you decide how many players your story is designed for and it will help to keep you from those sneaky Frill Ideas that happen as you progress in making your game.

Take your concept as far as your story allows and if short on help then visit here at GG.. Plenty of people looking for Projects that will actually get completed.
