64 bit, or Vista?

I know that Torque currently has a couple of issues with Windows Vista, so, with that said....
I'm about to start building my own computer, and I'm in the planning stages, and I've been debating on whether or not to get the regular XP Pro edition, or the XP x64 Pro Edition. My question is whether Torque is able to run on 64 bit systems, or if I should go with a 32 bit, and upgrade when Torque is able to handle the 64 bit ones. Is the problem with 64 bit OSes, or just Vista?
Thanks!

Did some digging after reading your responce, and I found a Wikipedia article on Windows-on-Windows 64-bit. Do you know if Torque works with this?

...Oh. I should add... Dell does not make a 64bit driver for my sound card... so that obviously doesn't work. But that's not Torque's fault... that's Dell's fault.
I think in this case that Torque is running under WOW64 because I don't remember there being a 64bit version of Torque. (All 32 bit software has to be recompiled to be 64 bit, producing the original 32bit version and the new 64bit version - recompiling in 64bit may cause additional problems). Now that I think about it... since the source code is included, you should be able to recompile it yourself as 64bit using Visual Studio 2008. You may still run into compatibility problems with drivers and such... in other words, it may or may not be just that simple... I haven't tried it... I've only recompiled some of my own personal and very small programs in 64 bit (with simple programs it's not that hard - but then Torque does not fall into the catagory of "simple program").
I wonder if GarageGames has any official word on a 64bit version? (That they've compiled).

WOW64 (Windows-on-Windows 64-bit) is just Vista's way of handling 32 bit software on it's 64 bit version for backwards compatibility. I'm running Vista 64 bit at work. So, I loaded Torque SDK and started up the FPS starter kit. It came up but complained about drivers for OpenGL. I switched the driver to D3D (DirectX) and everything came up fine. I ran around the level and fired the crossbow a couple of times. Other than the OpenGL thing at the beginning, there were no problems. Since it's at work, I can't do any real extensive testing. (I don't think I've loaded Service Pack 1 yet, which has DirectX 10.1 - my build number is showing as 6000 under My Computer). ...Oh. I should add... Dell does not make a 64bit driver for my sound card... so that obviously doesn't work. But that's not Torque's fault... that's Dell's fault.

I do have problem with plugins for Lightwave though and that's my main headache. If I didn't have an XP 32 machine as well, I would probably just stick with either Vista 32 or XP 32.
