Here's the plot for Asterix in Switzerland ripped straight from wikipedia:Quote:Roman governor Varius Flavus of Condatum has been putting aside for himself (i.e. embezzling) the greatest share of the taxes he has collected. The money he sends to Rome consists of just a few coins. When Quaestor Vexatius Sinusitus is sent to investigate, Flavus poisons him to avoid being discovered. Dissatisfied with Flavus' doctors, Sinusitus calls for the druid Getafix. Getafix can brew an antidote for him, but an essential ingredient of the potion is a flower called the silver star (edelweiss), which only grows on the highest mountains. Now there's a side quest if ever I saw one :D

AI Game Programming Wisdom 4 has a paper titled "Stop getting side-tracked while designing side-quests". Which covers someones research topic -- developing a side-quest generator as an icewind dale mod, or might have been baldurs gate. I don't know if you can find it somewhere on the internet, but had some interesting stuff.

How about, a quest to send a fosiil founded in a nearby village and send it to the Computer Exo Lab for creating the huge fossil creature into a actual monster that started to roam across the worlds forest as a boss monster.

What about if the player has to go defuse a nuke planted by the evil insurgant dragons that are dead set on bringing hell to earth?

How about a necromancer who tries to reanimate some dead great dragon to make it his undead servant. Player gets to choose if he helps the necromancer or not. He can save the world from the threat or serve the necromancer and help him gather the needed ingredients to cast the black magic to reanimate the dragon.

Anyhow, Quench Hell Fires.
Defeat X number demons
Defeat Boss demon
Steal Hellish artifact
Free enslaved souls (on earth by demons etc)
Get heavenly items to defeat demons swords shields etc.
Recruit Angelic help
Collect rainbows in a bottle, everyone knows demons hate rainbows (don't they ???)
Break into corrupted church and steal the remaining holy water to battle.
Outfit an item such as a car with demon killers, Armageddon meets diablo...
Sidequests just to learn "powers" like bullet time but suggest you call it spiritwalk or something...."Legal battles make for horrible side quests"
Save animals from demons, oooh demonzoo creatures Lion from hell roooar
Or, Oooh Elephants crushing demons yay
Ok you get my point, anything that makes sense, unless you want "Classic RPG" sidequests such as.....
Gather 100 coins, kill x mobs, get ultra item thats broken in 10 pieces, save key people, kill key enemy, do something completely pointless but its a sidequest. :)
Hope I inspired something!!!

Well if its Literal Hell, or Dante's Inferno Hell, or the literal meaning of Hell which is Sheol, or the Grave? :)Anyhow, Quench Hell Fires.

Like the flower example. Other things like finding a crafter that knows the only means to produce a key compontent of some item. Find and train with a legendary hero, who's gone into the wilds. and on goes all the possible ideas.
But without knowing the full details on the main story plot and time game set in, it'd be hard to provide details subplot stories, remember we not mind readers, even if we wished we were.
You'll also need to read through all ideas and hopefully you're lucky and find a few that tie in together to increase the playability of your game.
Personally I tend try to get at least 2-3 subplots that cross over with the main story plot, and then a few dozen subplots that are just short time killers.
