3D Artist/Modeler Needed (Others read also)

by James Dobry · in Jobs · 05/16/2008 (5:13 pm) · 12 replies

Hi,

FutureGamers is coming out with a new game, basically what will be an MMO. Though, I will not release to much information about the game unless requested. We are looking for 3D artists/modelers for Characters, Shapes, Interiors, etc. We do have a group of great programmers, webdesigners, etc. already on this project, but, we lack the creative touch that most 3D artists/modelers have.

Just so you all understand though, we are doing this out of pure fun until project is done. We than will decide if we should charge for game, monthly, or both. From that standpoint, profits will be split to all employees. Also, we are trying to find high-quality designers for top-notch graphics - basically to draw in gamers easier.

If interested feel free to contact me at webmaster@futuregamers.net. If you have any questions feel free to also contact on here.

P.S. If you feel at all interested feel free to e-mail me also, we do welcome all types of designers, coders, etc. to this project in hopes of making the work load easier and making the release date hopefully faster. Also, the 3D modeler is the our only standstill at this point.

Thank You and Best Regards,
James - FutureGamers

No one will work for no pay.

Not true,

Especially if they are not known and wish to get a porfolio, etc. Than again, I do understand what you mean. Though, I thought this was basically and INDIE site? Well, most INDIE companies will not be able to pay their employees, or at least until profits start to roll in. Plus, my company, FutureGamers, we have our own website network, so if an employee wishes for them to get more coverage, it is easy as a few clicks for us.

Hey James,

Neil is right. INDIE need money too.

I have been working as a INDIE programmer for 14 months and have only worked on paid projects. And most people can make a profolio on their own.

Yes,

I understand, though I got a music company helping us out already for free, so why do I HAVE to pay the modeler? I mean, I am pretty good at photoshop myself, just not at the whole 3D part. I have created 3D model textures before, just don't know how to fully create the skeleton of characters, buildings, etc.

I am not saying that if we make profit that the modeler won't get their share, just saying that currently at the moment all funding is going towards software and the saving for the servers and such. Which is probably why most modelers are staying away from my post. Though, I mean anyone who can make the skeleton for the models can help me out that would be great, and exactly all I need done.

Think of it this way.

Why should I waste my time working for you, when I could be working for someone else the same amount yet making more.

Not trying to insult you, but its the way the world turns... No money = no way to live.

Sorry for contributing to off-topic stuff here, but while I see your point, Neill, I think you are very much proven wrong by the plethora of projects around the internet that exist solely *because* of people willing to work without pay. Seems it is less common among artists--for whatever reason--but very common among programmers.

And really you don't have to look far. Just take a look around this very community and you'll find plenty of examples of people willing to work for no pay.

So, back to topic. Good luck, James (though I fear that even just including this dreaded three letter acronym in your post has (not without reason) voided all your hopes).

@Rene Damm,

I want to thank you for the backup, though I do understand what Neil means.

@Neil Silva,

Thanks, though just to let you know, Rene is right in a lot of ways. I, in fact, in the last two days have picked up a very interested 3D modeler and I have a music company producing the music, all for free. Not saying that these people have to put their lives out there and solely work on this project. Though, they find interest in what our programmers are doing and will get paid once we do start producing profit.

No pay = shouldn't be posted in JOB section.

Perhaps I should post a link to a dictionary ?
P.S. good luck on your project anyways

Well,

Only reason I posted it in the JOB section is because GG told me to (read the forum description), so I did so. Other whys I wouldn't have. Plus, now I have two 3D modelers.

Hi James,

Rather late, i know. However, if you're looking for any more 3d modelers, I'd be interested to hear about your game idea, team, eventual audience and such like.

Oh, and @ eb -- Throw dictionaries where you may. However, there are such things as voluntary work nowadays which are also considered jobs by the many people that do decide to volunteer. There is a lot more to be gained than monetary satisfaction.

Oh, as for the dictionaries you would like to throw: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/job

There are far more entries without the words paid, pay or fee in there than there are entries with them.

Hope to hear from you soon James.
