Welcome to the first ever Dr. Dobb's Challenge, a special game competition brought to you in association with the world-renowned Dr. Dobb's Journal for software developers and Microsoft.

- Firstly download our specially created "Dr. Dobb's Challenge' games for either Windows and Windows Mobile.

- Then you can win from a prize pool of $10,000 by modifying the games using a trial version of Visual Studio 2008.

As long as you have a license, you should be able to use it according to the rules. I find it interesting that they mention not having a license for Quake 3 and then mentioning the GPL in almost the same breath. I guess they were referring to the closed-source license for Q3.

Because of all the typos, the last URL, and grammatical errors such as, "Hi, TGE, TGB or TX can be used for this competition?" I call shenanigans.

Reading through the rules, it seems like mostly a mod contest for the games that DrDobb's provides more than an external engine, though it does not restrict you from using other tools. The point seems to be learning through modding.

Sorry, my first language is spanish.

For the contest we need to use VS2008 (rule), torque compiling in VS2008 without problems?, maybe someone update the vs2005 project to vs2008...

You should be fine converting the project up. You will need to download the Windows 2003 Server R2 Platform SDK, though.
