Weapons not mounting properly

Here is what is happening...I built my vehicle model and weapon models in maya 2k8, export as dts, they display in STP just fine individually. When I attempt to mount them, they relocate and reorient themselves. mond you the mount points on vehicle and weapon are shown by STP to have the exact same cords. Anyone have a similar experience?
