New PC -vs- adjust display settings?

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum and to Torque. I just downloaded the TorqueGameBuilder demo, and I'm having an ok time navigating through the tuts so far. But I started the fish tutorial, and after I added backgrounds and the 2 layers of foregrounds it is seriously bogged down. Is it possible that the game is stretching or compressing the image to fit the screen? If so is there a setting that I can adjust this with? Or a frame rate setting?
I guess the other explanation would be that my computer is just too old. It has a 2.9 Gig CPU, 504 Megs ram, and a Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Video card. I know my PC is not ready for game development, but I was hoping that I could at least make it through some of the features in TGB so that I can decide whether or not to dive into it.

Thanks for any insight.

I found the 'System Requirements' section of the TGB page. It seems that I'm right around the bare minimum specs. I've tried a few other tuts since then, and they work OK.
