Available for game devolpment

Right now, I am looking to get into the 3D game devolpment world. I am ordering a computer capable of game dev. this weekend hopefully, and will have it next weekend.(10th-11th of may) I have done simple game dev. tasks in the past, including skinning, creating textures and simple modeling. I can make fair concept sketchs and can 2D animate. I'm currently learning to code, and am improving my modeling skills.
I would like to help someone with their project, to learn the ropes. I would hope to participate in a game not in the past if I can. (just never really liked them, other then ww2 or ww1 which I would love to work on.)
I would work for free, and use my own equipment and software.

I'm assuming @John is me since I see no other Jon's around... We have 2D and 3D projects in the works right now that need a 2D artist.

Edit: sorry I missed the part where you said you would work for free. :) If you'd like to join a small team I'm making a FPS/RTS. I'd like to see your work.
Basic Gameplay: Two teams gather resources and build up their bases and attack each other. You build things like a Research Center which allows you to research new tech. After you research you can upgrade other buildings which gives the players access to new weapons, ammo, and other things . Think Starcraft or Age of Empires in first person.
