GUI's not saving

Ok I changed the directory of a background image and it applied while i was in the editor. I clicked apply, saved it, and even deleted the corresponding DSO. However, when I tried to open it again the change had reverted back to what it was originally. I don't know how to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.
