Kids deserve rights

I know this is probably not the right place to do this, but I am so sick and tired of reading about the mistreatment of kids. Every day I am sadened by yet another story of a child being beaten, killed or disabled for life. I don't really know what to do about it now, but I do know kids deserve human rights just like everyone else and they should be enforced.
I am going to speak to my local council person to find out what I can do to have people treat their kids properly and preserve life, and to promote this cause so everyone is more accountable. They'll probably delete this thread, but hopefully I can stir something in everyone before they do. I'm going to start up a website dedicated to saving kids and supporting their rights.

Well, this is obviously going to be a sensitive subject. There are organizations such as UNICEF that are out there to promote children's rights. Check with them on how you can volunteer or make a difference in other ways. I'm sure you can use your computer, or other skills, to promote awareness in ways that others haven't. Some countries have little respect for the young, with heinous crimes going unpunished. I personally think it would help to improve your own country, and try to set an example for other less developed countries. Okay, I know that's idealistic, but it's a good place to start.

Despite the amount of time I poor into the game industry for work and hobby, I stay as active as I can with my community. From writing letters to my local representatives, to teaching women's and children's self-defense class pro-gratis. My advice to you is to target the online and off-line communities that can further your cause more so than a game development community. Unless, that is, you are going to make a serious game that addresses these issues.
If you want to discuss this more, feel free to shoot me an e-mail to my personal address found in my profile.

While well meaning, you are correct in that this is not the right place to discuss this. It's not just the fact that the topic is way out of league with the purpose of these forums, but there are better sites to go to to get involved.Despite the amount of time I poor into the game industry for work and hobby, I stay as active as I can with my community. Ramen, yes that does seem very extreme, and it would appear that some US punishments are extreme just to set an example. Not knowing the circumstances, or the influence of decisions by various parties it is difficult to determine if this was the right sentence. It would seem that someone in that situation had a sway on the decision making because the child was not killed or maimed. I don't know Ramen - it's too difficult to judge. Is your friend's brother able to appeal?
I like the idea of a game that deals with the situation to increase awareness and publicity - I'm not ready to do that yet. I think I will start building a site with a forum - I've just reserved www.kidsneedlove.org so I'll be using my mad computer skills to get that going, perhaps raise a charity for our local kids hospital is a good way to start.
Thanks guys, and I wanted to say that my point is, that even though I realise there are rights for children, not all adults respect them, and that's my cause. I could rattle off a whole pile of incidents that happened to kids just this week, and also this past year in my sleepy little town, but you all know of similar stories so the point is already made.
I know it's the Superman scenario where I can't be everywhere to prevent every incident from occuring, but I can raise awareness, and in particular, remind parents who think they aren't treating their kids badly that everyone needs a reality check. A lot of parents in my town have mistreated their kids, and indeed some kids have been neglected or not considered properly to the point where the child was killed - just down the road in fact.
It makes me sick, I want it stopped and we are all to be held accountable because we bring these little people into the world and don't look after them nearly as much as we should. I know you probably do, but you might know someone who doesn't - be active - intervene for the good of the child.

I think I should move off this site as you say, but in this brief forum I have learned a lot. I will contact you Michael thank you. I don't want to be off topic here, or Andy, do I know you from some where? Are you the developer of AC3D?
