TGE vs TGEA differences (???)

by Andrea Barolo · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 04/21/2008 (12:28 pm) · 6 replies

I noticed a very strange thing !! I posses the license of TGE 1.5.2 and TGEA 1.7 !!
Watch these two images !

This is a TGE 1.5 image

and this is the equivalent of TGEA

Do you notice any differences ??

Where are the clouds that TGE have ???

Another exemple !!

The TGE 1.5.2 one

and the TGEA 1.7 one

I cannot belive that the old engine is better than the new one !! So what have I to do to obtain equivalent images ? And note that the ROPE of the bow are inverted on the TGEA (is this a bug ?)

Thankz

The clouds are still there in both examples. You can just make them out, the fog is just turned up higher.

Are the view distance and fog settings the same between the two? If you look at the images, the clouds are there, but appear to be obscured by the particles/environmental effects and fog.

It's not that the old engine is better than the new one :) - it's that the TGEA demo advanced is a port from TGE, mainly as a proof of concept and as such, we didn't spend a lot of time tweaking every visual difference. Maybe in a future update we could spend some time doing so, but it was definitely not a priority for release.

The lightning difference can arise from pointing to the wrong textures. I had to do some fog tweaking to see the clouds, takes all of 5 seconds. Personally I prefer the fog in TGE over TGEA as the TGEA fog appears too smooth. Have you noticed the exaggerated raindrops yet?
