Future mmorpg

Hey,
i no i havnt been very active but iv just got back to TGE and have started refinding my skill (that i probably dont have) of gam development, that out the way i would like to share my idea for the future mmorpg DUN DUN DUN.

Ok, is it just me or do you get tired of playing games like wow runescape (no i dont play rs) and games like that? tired of repeatedly killing bosses or characters and them not dying? no iffernce of game play when you make a differnt character? well iv had a idea that would change that hoefully for the better, my idea is a game set in fantasy time (when ever that maybe swords guns magic ect ect) where instead of computer generated characters giving really high level quests or good quests (leave the ones that could act repeatable in real life say collcting certain items ect ect) instead the game masters (game masters are people who have been selected in games to make sure there is no bugs help fix bugs answer questions ect ect but in this game they are 1 of the most important people/ thing in the game) would give out quests like that or killing certain things drop items which you trade in for exp or rewards. Also, when you kill a main ( computer generated person who has a name and looks very important) character (say a king or something) he actually dies for good and you could take his place as king (you could become in control of the plot of land or village the character controlled).

Ok so the game starts like a normal mmorpg, you choose a race (human orc dwarf ect ect) and depending on what race you choose you are spawned to a differnt city/town/village, and you generally lvl up like a low lvl from other mmorpg game the same a most mmorpg killing monsters, low level quests ect ect then when you hit lvl 20ish you get out of the low lvl computer generated quest givers and on to finding your own adventures like slaying a high ranking vampire or killing other citys or villages, high ranking officers and of course doing game masters quests (they will be randomly given out at say a information board or give out by the actual game master depending on what quest he makes up this way the game stays fresh and dosent feel like your constantly doing the same thing over and over again). now as i said about whats differnce between this mmorpg and others is that you can take over villages and kill bosses that once uv killed no1 else can unless there are certain circumstances( so its a micture between a stratergy game and a mmorpg), also another feature i would love in a mmorpg would be changing into something differnt after making your character at the start like say if you were fighting a vampire or were wolf or something some times (or wether u gave a good fight) the vampire/werewulf would bite you and change you into a vampire or were wolf meaning you would have powers that a normal player wouldnt (or disadvantages to make vampirism not so much wanted) also another feature id love is that in most games they tend to have gods of some sort, so what a cool thing to do would be if the game masters had differnt forms (player form so no1 can no hes a gm and gm form as in all might and powerful but his gm and player form have differnt names so people can recognise him abit like changing stances in wow if you ever played) as gm form he would basically be a god in the game you can fly, be really almighty and powerful ect ect. If a gm sees a player being heroic (aka saving som1 or killing a stronge monster) like giving his life for some1 else to get away he can give them blessings or magic items or a new power ect ect, and the reason for 2 forms 4 a gm is so the gm can play the game and players dont try stalk a gm and try do something heroic at every second.
so there is my idea if you want information please comment and anything wronge with this please post it because when i get better at using TGE im hoping to create this game with a team
thanks for reading and is that easyer to understand?

@Ash - Please reformat if you expect people to actually read. I got through what should have been the first paragraph and just gave up. I'm interested in your ideas, as I'm sure others would be too, if you'd present it in a way we can actually read!

Well not techniqually true because the elder scrolls is a 1 player game that looks like a mmo this will be a bigger scale basically and got alot more twists
lets me take you through a day of a mid lvl character

you log on as a lvl 30 demon slayer (havnt thought of the ranks or classes yet) and you hear about a vampire which is climbing the ranks (the vampire is a computer generated character) and is called Lord Mavelus, you think it would be cool to take him down beforehe gets to high lvl for you and you miss a chance of gaining fame with a city or village you like (with some cool loot) so you track him down in the middle of a dark forest seing him raising dead from corpses, you almost kill him but he beats you and instead of wasting you he turns you into a undead now you can choose to serve him and help him gain power or try get away from his grip and eitherway you are now a vampire, meaning you have special abilitys like can cast dark spells you are stronger and have a new skill lvl (wing strength like if you can fly when you turn into a bat or how far and high you can) but this also means you cant travel when its light without a hood or protection and cant ingage combat in sum light without shade and is now hated by most villages ad citys unless you go undercover.

now how cool is that?

@Ash: Loathe as I am to say "cool!" to any new PW being developed involving elves and dwarves (not that I don't like fantasy- it's just been done to death and back), you did mention werewolves and vampires, so I'll throw in my two cents on your game ideas. Keep in mind, this is constructive criticism so that you can see and address some issues, because you'll be forced to do that anyway, and the earlier the better:

1) Your talk of werewolf and vampire effects when a player gets bitten, and how they can gain abilities. You should also balance this with drawbacks that are just as bad, so that you don't get players flocking to the local werewolf to get bitten just so that they can get a permanent buff or free ability. And unfortunately, having a player look more hairy wouldn't do it ;) I'm thinking of additional vulnerabilities (silver, sunlight, etc).

2) The kind of world that you describe is somewhat more dynamic than other PW's out there, and this will take a good amount of work in order to make sure that the disappearance of a character has all of it's "loose ends" (ie, other players with quests related to it) tied up.

3) In relation to #2, you mention generated quests. Do a lot of research into this, as it is nowhere near as easy as other features are to implement (and those other features are not in themselves easy to implement either, which should tell you something). I'm not calling it impossible, since I'm working on such a system myself and am pretty close, but it's literally taken years to get to this point, so be forewarned.

Just a few things to think about that will help you out in the long run. You're young, so study game development, and study the fields that are related to what you want to do. Be patient and work hard, and understand that Rome wasn't built in a day, and your world is much bigger than Rome... ;)

@ Ted thx for the post but here are my comments:
1. i did include draw backs in the discriptiption (be it very vaige) but i was thinking of:vampires: cant go out in the sun without a cloak or there health lowlyish goes down until you get under shade and you cant get into combat in sun light, aswell as most villages citys and towns will now hate you and yoyu will be vunerable to other players and city guards at ALL times
werewolfs: silver items cannot be held in your back pack and silver bullets or weapons do bonus damage to you, but you can change back to human every so often, same as the vampire public enemy 1# to every1 and hateds by most towns ect and players will be able to attack you
2. i dont think the quest system that the GM's give quests out would be that hard to do but your the expert
3. the reason why iv included these usaul horror gam suspects is cause there quite cool and the origenal monster so why should they be limmitted to horror games and horror mmo's?

I think it sounds inconsistent that the "computer generated players" level up per default, its exactly those kind of mechanics in game that make me feel frustrated and firms the feeling of being in an all out static environment that adapts to me instead of the other way around.

@ Ted L: There are games that do that now? I'd be interested in knowing which ones so I can check them out.

To address your comment directly though, I think that if it was done correctly, that is, as a way to create content tailored for your level/class/etc, then it would work very well. If a "static" NPC, however, changed levels to accomodate PC's of differing levels, then that would be somewhat lame, and could ruin the gameplay experience (because if everything was around your level, then why bother having them?). Adding the feature just to add it and applying it to the entire gameworld without forethought would probably kill the game, in my opinion.

Yup, there defintivly is, ill start by namedropping a game which is not this way: Fallout 2(and prolly the 1 too). Fallout 2 never NEVER takes any steps to help the player if the player find himself in a situiation where he should get killed. For example, when you start out with nothing but a spear you might run into a patrool of the former military, who in turn will totaly mince you with their retro futuristic gadgets. But that is what you get for being so stupid that you try and take on the hardest enemies in the game without the proper gear/experience.

A game that is that way is Oblivion. The bandits run around with frecking mega armour towards the end(i belive it was called Daedra or Daedric) =) It makes me feel so frustrated to grow in power, only to learn that so has everyone else, so its basically just worthless. Also, my faith in the world gets a licking too, since its so obvious that the world is just artficial.

A game which is kind of this way, is most the final fantasy games. But thats just because its so linear(until you get the airship or buggy or whatever) that the enemies are allways close to your level because you never really get to choose which area you want to go to. Once you get the airship though, it does feel consequent, for example you might run into some of those "weapons", that will hand your ass on a platter, or you might run into an enemy that used to be really hard in the begining, only to find out that your handing HIS ass on a platter.

Fallout 3, as to quote Eric Cartman from SP, will prolly "suck monkey balls". I wonder if the bums will run around with mega armour and Gauss guns when you hit level 20 =)

Evidence? No, wait...I've heard every supported and weak argument from the non-stop wild fires found in the official Fallout 3 forums. Of course, it's all speculation and opinion since the game has yet to be released. I still do not understand how people equate game engines to actual game content.

Fallout 3 is built on Oblivion tech...Of course, Minions of Mirth is built on tech that was used in Tribes...

On topic: I'm definitely not a fan of global leveling of all entities in a game to match the player. I happened to enjoy (and occasionally laughed) when I accidentally ventured too close to Reno (Fallout 2) at a low level and matched my SMG against a Plasma Mini-gun wielding enemy =)

Nothing wrong with a game that pits you against obviously weaker or dominant enemies, despite your level. *How* the game lets you handle the situation through options and decision, now that is what matters to me.

This is kind of derailing, but i just want to mark out that i said "prolly". I belive its more probable it will be bad than it will be good BUT i have NOT said: it will be good/bad. It just what i feel for the moment. I base this on the one an only fact that its not same developers, and its a sequel, basically making it a liscense game. Besides if you are going to be that picky you cant really judge a game objectively, its all up to the guy playing the game.
