How Much Would A Game Sell For Through Online Distribution??

by JoeSmith · in Torque Game Engine · 06/02/2001 (9:20 am) · 5 replies

Pretty simple question. Would we get to set the price on how much it would cost. Because we really don't want to charge a lot at all and the more expensive it is, the less fanbase you get ...

Yes, game makers are the ones who set the prices of their products that are sold through GG. To quote a previous forum post: If you want to price your game at $100, you can. Just don't expect to sell many copies.

Assuming GG gives you the go-ahead for paid distrobution, I don't see how they could really force you into a price. They'll probably give you a suggestion. I doubt they'll force you to charge at all, even if they think you should. That just seems like a bad idea to me.

Personally I think $5-25 is a good range, from a small game to a large game. Even if you have a huge epic game, I personally think charging more than $25 is a bad idea. Remember for ESD, that's all "profit," so you get half that price unlike box where you'd probably end up getting only a few bucks. Plus the consumer doesn't get a box or manual and such. They won't want to pay nearly as much.

SO what do you get when you buy the game just a CD in a plastic case? If you design a CD Cover Case you think GG will put it in the CD Case for you? And if you make a manual do you think they would include it as well ...

I think 5 dollars is a good price, because 5 bucks people will lay down for a inde game developer ... Maybe 10 bucks ...

And how will you pay if your buying a game? Credit Card?

You guys might want to go read the thread called "Royalty Clarification" that I started last week. It's the one with all the info you're asking for basically. Go check it out and post any further questions there. Lot of this stuff has already been covered in that thread or a few old ones.
