Cave interrior/level design questions

So I am trying to make a level in my game where its just a giant cave (not too big) but with an entrance (where the player can't leave, but can see out) and a series of tunnels leading off into smaller parts and such. So I had a few questions.
1.) I was told the best format for a building, which is basicly what this cave will be, should be in dif format. So I was wondering if anyone out there knew about exporting to this format with 3DS MAX 9. I couldn't find it under export. I found df, but not dif and was not sure if this was the same or not. And if not, how would I export to this format? Is there a utility download like the DTS one? Any info would be helpfull.
2.) Should I make the whole cave one model? Because I was thinking of making it large enough to allow some freedom, but small enough that players have no problem finding each other or areas to hold down from enemies.

Hey, thanks for the post. I read in that the only way to get the dif file format is to send a map file into quark and then export it into dif format. So it seems 3DS Max is not the best solution for interriors. All I have other then 3DS Max is Constructor, though I prefer Max because i'm used to it. Oh well, thanks for the help.

Hey, just had an idea. Thought i'm not sure if it will work since I have not used constructor in some time. But does constructor allow importing dts shapes into the work space? Couldn't I import it there and export it from constructor into a dif format? Or is there something i'm missing?

You can however, make it using dts and add polysoup for collisions.

The dts part is just to add detail. You can however, make it using dts and add polysoup for collisions.

Ryan Mounts has also created this handy tool that exports .csx files from 3dsmax. Basically you can model in 3dstudio max and them export your files into constructor to save them out as .dif files. I'd recommend giving it a try.www.garagegames.com/blogs/66653/14197
