Help with t2dTextObject (are accents suported?)

I'm having problems with the "t2dTextObject" used on TGB. It wont accept accented characters, that are commonly used in my language (brazilian portuguese).
The most common accents are: ~ ^ '. They are used above the letters a e i o and u (I can't show you the accented letters here in the forum because it also have a problem with them! I'm actually rewriting this topic because the forum erased everything after the accented letters).
So... is there a way to make tgb support internationalized letters without altering the engine source (which I don't have access to as Indie)?
