Diffrence's from TGE and TGEA?

by Braedon Hinchcliffe · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 03/28/2008 (12:31 am) · 7 replies

So this new torque juggernaut says it has all the feature's of TGE added in. I was under the impression that TGEA already had all the feature's that TGE has. So what exactly did TGE's code base add to TGEA.

A lot of bug fixes, new environment objects, bonus assets, and classes were added to TGEA. Some of the more apparent stuff will be found in the Mission Editor, in terms of what can be added. A lot of people have claimed that TGE, being around longer, is more stable. A lot of stability and development has been pushed over to TGEA.

TGEA doesn't, and likely never will, run on Mac or Linux.
If you want to appeal to the mac market [and what indie doesn't!], you'll have to stick with TGE

Nope, all of us over here agree thats the mac and linux market is too marginal for us to care about.

Exactly. If you are developing a game, you should aim for a market that will make sales. a.k.a. not mac or linux.

Macs are an EXCELLENT market for indies. Now, if you're vying for shelf-space in Wal-Mart of GameStop, then it is a different story.

As far as I could read from different developer stories the Mac market is interesting for small studios. Conversion rates from Demo / Shareware to full-prized version are better and some developers even sold 50 percent or more copies to Mac users.

Just look at the huge amount of Windows competition, free games and very good budget games!

But back to topic:
From my point of view the TGEA is very interesting from technology point of view. At the other hand the workflow is better with TGE. Constructor and Showtool do not display shaders, Dif structures work instantly in TGE but it is harder to get them work properly in TGEA.
With this in mind I have to admit - both engines TGEA and TGE have advantages and disadvantages compared to each other.
Maybe in the future it will happen that TGEA has only advantages over TGE. Juggernaut is the right step into this direction.

I do think that some games should be ported or made for Linux.
