Did I just make a $295 mistake?

by Brian Carter · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 02/25/2008 (7:58 am) · 20 replies

I purchased the TGEA yesterday and after reading these forums (which are locked until you buy the product, not helpful) it seems that TGEA is no longer supported. Should I have gone with Torque X? What I wish I had done now is to have purchased TGE then upgraded to TGEA so I had access to both. There are no tutorials for TGEA and coming in new has been a frustrating experience to say the least.

Why do you think that it is no longer supported? There is a team of developers working on it right now, and there is a big update coming out very soon - now is a great time for TGEA:

Read Matt's update here: www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=14177

OK thanks (again) - so many threads to read. I guess I just needed some reassurance that this wasnt a mistake and a product that was on its last legs. All of the threads I have read so far seemed to spout doom and gloom saying that Torque X and Torque 2 is getting all of the work. Clearly this isn't true - at least based on that link you provided. If anything, it sounds like I came onboard at the right time, if not a tad early.

....
I'm not sure I understand why I dont get access to the TGE and the TGEA if I purchased the later. Buying the TGE and then upgrading to TGEA would have cost about the same - so why cant I get access to it as part of the TGEA??

I think you probably should have. As far as I know you would have both engins and Show tool pro and the lighting kit whick you don't have now for the same $295.

Get a refund then go the update route.

Brian - just send a mail to the support line. They'll hook you up with acess the the TGE resources, if that's what you're looking for.

@Brian: Just to make you aware, the only thing that I know of that is no longer supported by Garage Games is the RTS Kit. The RTS Kit is being worked on only by a few very die hard (Novack and James) members of the community. I have asked several times for them to place that on the product page, but so far they have refused.

Does not seem to be correct what Jaimi is saying, I sent a support call, about a month ago asking for access to TGE 1.5, never received a reply.

The only time you get TGE is if you purchase TGE. TGEA is a different standalone game engine, even though they do share some of the same features and code. They are still two different products geared at two entirely different development groups.

Probably will be a few years till Torque 2 is out.... Torque X is another product all together, and is quite new doesn't have as many features.

@Brian and Jan
You should have access to TGE now rather than having to do the refund/rebuy/upgrade path for the same price.

> You should have access to TGE now

Thats good. Is that standard practice now with GG? Buy TGEA and get TGE? Seams logical.

I just bought TGEA today and have the same complaint. If I understand this post correctly, I should have bought TGE instead.

David, I need access to TGE as well.

Is there anyway I can also get access to Torque 1.5.2? I have TGEA, TST, and TGE 1.4, and since the lighting kit is part of TGEA, i don't see why i should have to purchase it again to get a free upgrade to 1.5.

TGE 1.5.2 was a much bigger update to TGE than just a lighting kit.

And 99% of TGE 1.5.2 is coming into TGEA as part of the free huge update, so no worries.

Chris: I know, and I am very excited for this move, but I plan on purchasing the update to TGE 1.5 as well.

Kenneth: I didn't mean for my question to sound like TGE 1.5.2 didn't add anything. I ment that for acquiring the free upgrade, having to already have the lighting kit didn't seem to make sense, since it is already included in TGE-A, so why would i want to purchase it (the TLK) again?

I need access to tge also.... so that I can purchase the rts....just realized several of the features I'm looking for are there, and since noone has an official port for tgea yet....
left a message with support, but haven't gotten a reply..... I knew I had seen this though a few months back so I searched manually through the posts until I found it...yea!
