Hi all,

Surprised no-one's jumped on this announcement yet so I thought I'd see what people's opinions are. Looks like a pretty good deal to me, particularly encryption, auto-updating and voice comms.

I logged into my Steam account to download Steamworks for evaluation. It doesn't look like it is *quite* released yet... very interesting development.

Hm, well I booted up HL2 and checked out the integrated Steam Community web browser stuff. The web integration while in game performs very poorly and has quite limited functionality. For instance, you can't edit your profile, use combo boxes, etc. They just don't work...

The thing about web integration is that everyone knows how it is supposed to work. If your web integration is poor, it really feels crappy. The poor performance of their web "widget" on what is a pretty decent box makes me wonder about how it runs on mainstream gear.

I'm still interested... but, the Steam Community ingame web stuff is underwhelming.

Yeah I agree about the in-game community stuff. There are certainly some aspects of steamworks that are very interesting, however.
