Actually its a quite good monologue about consumerism, production and world resources.
If i were to spam web-crap i would have said, "Work UNSAFE! Think them honkers are real?" in the link tag.....

It's also very, very off topic for this site. This community works because we focus on a common topic, instead of turning it into a debate club or an advertisement board for everybody's pet issues.

No actually, i stumbled upon that in some research, and at first found it really funny. Then i felt bad for thinking it was funny... And then i thought to myself "Hey Garage Games Forums are full of smart people, i wonder what smart people might have to say about this..." So here we are, forgive my none community works inquiries on the matter....

Get over yourself Jason! MR forum police, or is it THOUGHT police? Can i see some sorta prof that you have the authority to judge me? I have seen other threads that have no content at all about community works. And JUST what if perhaps i WAS thinking of turning that theme into a computer game? hmm? what about them apples?!No actually, i stumbled upon that in some research, and at first found it really funny. I'm not going to argue with you, Caylo, as much as it seems you would like that. For most people, these forums are a place to discuss game development; personally, I would like to see them stay that way.

I was actually intrigued by the theme of the link i posted above, not trying to make any political point, and WAS indeed trying to start a discussion about it, in hopes that such ideas COULD be somehow worked into a computer game...
And in closing; Everyone here is completely free to click and read whatever forum thread they see fit, without being told if it is OFF TOPIC or not, im sure most people can figure that out them selfs, without being bullied or frighted away from replying...

I read Development Community Discussions >> General Discussion and this is a General Discussion with the Development Community. Im having a hard time seeing your logic... And why not you go say something on all the other off topic threads?I was actually intrigued by the theme of the link i posted above, not trying to make any political point, and WAS indeed trying to start a discussion about it, in hopes that such ideas COULD be somehow worked into a computer game...

Despite my personal feelings about their agenda, the real issue with linking to it here is that it is not even remotely aligned with the interests of most of the people here. If you are developing computer games, models or tools, then enhancing the search position of a site that decries the evils of stuff (like computers and game consoles) by creating a forum link is not in the interests of the developers.
Frankly, it is like someone posting a link to an article sponsored by PETA on the a website run by the Farm Bureau. No one on that site wants to promote people that would, given the power, close them down and put them out of business.
Why would we want to promote the viewpoint of people that want to put us out of business? If this was my own website, I would probably have deleted the message without explanation.

That site, like many, has an agenda behind it, posited in the name of educating the public about the evils of something, in this case consumerism. You may agree with the sentiments, disagree with them or be curious and review it for your personal editification, but it nonetheless has an out of the mainstream topic that they want to publicize.Despite my personal feelings about their agenda, the real issue with linking to it here is that it is not even remotely aligned with the interests of most of the people here. But the more i thought about it, the more i wondered how could such ideas be used to plot a computer game. It would be easy as a single player adventure. And ultimately themes like that have already existed in game plots. But what about useing the social issues posed or the economic model they talk about to drive an massive multi player game? What key elements COULD be used? Would it be to boring for the player? What about a sim?
I guess it would have been clearer, my intentions if i started with such questions. I have a problem with expecting people to be more analytical then judgmental/emotional when exposed to potently dangerous ideas/opinions...

Oh, neat. I did not see any of what was on that site as being ANTI computer game industry. It was more the social issues they raise that peeked my curiosity, im expecting there was nothing truly stated that is NEW news to anyone. I never even considered people viewing that as propaganda, something to think about sure, but not worth building ones life believe system over. But the more i thought about it, the more i wondered how could such ideas be used to plot a computer game. As for the game aspect you mention, try the sims. It's pretty much the same. You build a city, and no matter how you build it, someone, somewhere is complaining about something they don't like. Not enough police. Streets too crowded, etc... LOL I got to where I bulldozed entire blocks becouse of the rants. Didn't work. Someone somewhere else ranted. LOL. :-D
The biggest problem with the sims games, is that they are too close to the truth about cities. (I follow local politics very closely) You could probably do a learning style game using real life issues tho and might even accomplish making it interesting. Mabe a task driven theme?

Speaking of Sims... I saw a post recently that the source to the original SimCity game (renamed back to Micropolis) has been posted as an open source thing. You have to be an olde pharte to remember the game when it first came out, but at the time the whole idea of a computer simulation on machines with 8-bit processors, 1 MHz clock speeds, 64 KB of RAM and 128 KB floppy drives was an exciting concept.
