Walk cycle question

Hi All,
this is a bit of a newbie question but here it goes:
for my walk cycle should the character be moving forward in space
or "walk in place"?
and if the character needs to move through space should the bounding box follow him?
thanks for any help
J.

does the bounding box need to be linked to the biped as a child?

I was curious about this too, because the tutorials have you link it but if the engine does all the pushing (moving) of the character than why would the bounding box need to move? the only thing I could think of is a long death animation where the char. "dramaticaly" falls over.... WAY over.
