Vehicle datablock numbers

Do the numbers in the car.cs datablock represent anything in real life, or are they some arbitrary scale that was invented by GG? For example, the mass of the vehicle is 500; is that 500 pounds? The engine torque is given as 4000. What does this relate to in real life?

Yea I would like to know as well. That would make it really easy to tweak a car if it was a "real" number, or if we knew the scale.
