Mazerunner

I have been searching for an answer to my question with no luck. On page 72 lesson #1. I did all the copying
started the mission and everything works great! but, I cannot use F1-F8 like the previous chapter teaches.

I am attempting the part that generates new terrain.
For some reason while mazerunner is being ran I cannot enter the terraformer like it says to do. When I press F7 it just resets the character in the world. I have re-read many times and I am following everything exactly like it describes.

I even downloaded the books new chapters for setting up mazerunner and it says the exact same thing for this step in the book.

Has anyone else seen this problem?
