TGEA 1.03 interactive walkthrough always freezes on vista

by Steve Taylor · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 11/10/2007 (2:58 pm) · 3 replies

The actual demo application starts up ok. The interactive walkthrough freezes after only a few seconds. Interestingly, when I start windows task manager, the walkthrough runs for another few seconds, then freezes again. Then when I restart task manager, it will run for a few seconds, then freeze again. And so on.

This is always reproducible.

Relevant specs:

Intel Core 2 T5200 (1.6 GHz)
1 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce Go 7400
MS Windows Vista Home Premium
TGEA 1.03

This is an HP dv6000 series notebook - quite a popular model - this isn't some corner case of the engine not working on some exotic hardware setup.

EDIT: I have the latest drivers and latest windows updates. I have tried with/without aero/administrator/compatibility - lots of combinations, with no joy.

Latest graphics drivers from NVIDIA or HP?
Because notebook manufacturers have the useless tendency of beeing seriously behind and on vista this is a serious issue.

you might want to check it against www.laptopvideo2go.com

The only other reason I can think of is that your GPU is low on VRAM (or uses TC instead of dedicated VRAM) and you are using more intense shader stuff like Shader 2 water and the like.

I'm about to try the laptopvideo2go drivers. The GPU has its own VRAM.

Yup, those drivers fixed it. Thanks for the link.
