TGEA Atlas + landscape art

by Alexander Brown · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 11/05/2007 (10:38 am) · 4 replies

I have TGE and although I love the engine and how easy it is to modify, its landscape does leave one...less then impressed. The game im making it entirely outdoors, and looking at the bland textures and relitively "lifeless" terrains of TGE doesnt really help.

So I come to this board to ask how easy is it to make a heightmap for TGEA, import it and then texture it?
Also with TGEA is there a way to add a detail texture like TGE so the close range terrain doesnt look like poop?

thanks for any replys

You can either go with the legacy terrain as found in TGEA, or ATLAS. ATLAS terrains are created entirely within a separate program such as L3DT, Huge Terrain Creator, Terragen, etc.

Yea I knew that the Atlas terrain didnt have a within engine editor. It seems though after looking around these forums and google (thank god for google) I was able to find all the answers to my questions

thanks again

Hi Alexander. you can add two detail textures, painlessly. (thank heavens for user contributions).
they make the landscape look a lot less 'stretched'.

I too, have an atlas related question.

How can i stop the LOD from popping ?
when there is a LOD transition, hills suddenly pop up in front of my plane.
it spoils game immersion totally. And i was wondering if there is a way to
fix this landscape 'shifting'. ?

please take pity on a noob.
any advice appreciated.
thanks..
