Looking for beginners (maybe even a mentor?)

by Katelan Moye · in Jobs · 10/31/2007 (5:13 pm) · 16 replies

I have the TGE license.
I have Torsion.
I have GPGTGE.
I have a computer.

I'm looking for other beginners that I can add to my MSN buddy list. Just people that are new and are willing to share their knowledge with me, as well as my sharing my knowledge with them...

I am severely interested in learning more about Torquescript and of course I want to flirt with other things like terrains and stuff like that.

Give me a ring!

mickelonis@gmail.com (that's both my email and my msn messenger address)

Hope to talk to some of you soon!

-Pete

Feel free to email me (I don't do IM). I'm a journeyman scripter. Check out my game.

But I'd be glad to help. I have TGE/TGEA, Torsion, and a computer as well :)

Syn,

Welcome to GarageGames! I'm a beginner also, although I've been using Torque for two years. I have a license for TGE1.5 and a computer, but no books or torsion. Sorry, but I'm not online enough to IM, and I don't check my e-mail very often, but we all use the forums frequently.

Good luck!

Tony

Added you, I was just telling myself it'd be nice to have a few other Torque people to converse with on problems and ideas with Torquescript :D

This is a great idea! I'm particularly interested in the good (and bad) stuff that new users to TGE face. If you guys have feedback on what's working for you and what's not as you're learning TGE, either post on the forums or e-mail me directly: deborahm (at) garagegames.com.

We discussed similar ideas at IGC this year. I'd be interesting in seeing what you guys are coming up with, too!

Err.. unless I misunderstood the question (and AFTER i composed my own response in unison - I decided to search before posting - heh) I found this ...whee. Am just looking into it - but yeah! This fits the bill for me if it is what it looks like. Syn? you may want to look there as well - it is late at night here and I still see allot of folx in there. No one has answered my question for 10 minutes.. but they may all be day folk and are AFK *shrug*

Appears to be GG sanctioned/sponsored (hosted Java client from the GG site in that link).

Dude...I've been hanging around here for a year and a half now, and I never knew about that!

MaxGaming runs it. It's pretty sweet and a lot of dev's hang out there.

Heh - gotta love that search box at the top, eh? But, dont feel bad - I had written a long discourse asking the powers that be to make such a thing and ALMOST hit submit.. decided to search first ..on a whim. Glad I did.

The MaxGaming IRC channel sucks. Don't bother.

If the MaxGaming one sucks, is there another one that's better?

It doesn't suck at all. I'm curious why you'd think so. I've gotten on whenever I've had a question and gotten an answer in pretty short order. Either that or I ignore everything that I should be doing and chat with Tom Bampton. Is it the IRC interface that you don't like?

This is a good idea Syn. I'm just starting as well so it's good to meet others in the same place as I am. I'm looking to find others who do not necessarily wish to collaborate but would like to discuses and share their progress while helping each other out. Anyone interested in the same feel free to add me bory513@hotmail.com on messenger.

I'm a beginner too (scriptor). I don't have IM but I'll be willing to put up a private IRC.

Actually...

...I find the IRC works well. I've only used it 3 or four times (for GG channel).. but it worked great - people were friendly and helpful. I found other newbies like me as well as more knowledgeable folk (even lat eat night and early in the morning). The web interface kinda bothered me - but then there are a lot of options for IRC clients (especially on Linux) if you want a more extensible or configurable interface. Just google for one that fits your desires.
