Instant Action question

So I am putting together an idea for IA. Couple of questions have popped up.

Will IA handle the match making portion of the game or is that something I have to handle?
If I need a server to host a games is that something provided by IA?
If so how many players will it support?
How much storage space will I be given to store my game?

The game is a multiplayer game that will support 32 players in one game. I would like to retain scores per player and even have a solo rank and team ranking board.

What I am trying to figure out is how much of the networking ( especially the match making ) is my responsibility.

Well, at IGC a lot of these questions came up so I'll answer as best as possible.

1) The match making is handled in IA.
2) Servers depend on the game, really. It was mentioned that if you needed hosting for servers, something could be worked out, but there's no defacto server setup of this sort.
3) Depends on the game. MMOGs were mentioned as being a definite possibility.
4) Not sure here, but it seems like they're shooting for anything from small games to larger "AA" titles, so I'd say probably multiple GBs.

Likely you'll have to set up your game to do networking as normal, and just put in some hooks for the IA stuff to work along side it.

Did they say how soon they hope to have a game running inside the IA site?

I heard one conversation in a round-table at the conference that your game client
can run in IA and you can still host the servers for your game content. There was
also a brief mention that it's "possible" that IA would have some way of hosting
your game's server as well. (no guarantees on that one, it's all going to depend
on the deal you work out with them)

Most other things like leaderboards and scores may be something that IA has built
in to their API. They certainly handle the initial matchmaking where a group of people
decide they want to play your game at the same time. From there how you handle the
players once they reach your game seems like it's up to you and the capabilities of the
API.

I suspect a lot more information will come forth once the beta begins.

You might just want to contact GG directly and voice your interest in a more official
capacity that you're planning a game meant for IA. They will likely be more forthcoming
with a private conversation with a developer that's eager to put something out on this
then to prematurely post information here in a forum for the masses to pick apart.

Marble Blast Ultra is already running in it, and was available for preview
at the IGC conference. It looked pretty slick, and ran well.

They said Cyclomite should also be ready by the January debut, and several
others are on the development path towards the January release. It should
be very interesting.

I'm not sure what they will have available for those that will participate in the beta.

Best bet is probably going to be to call. 541-345-3040 and get hold of the
right person from there, or you could send an email to their Business
Development people. The email address is listed under Company and
Contact in the menu at the top of the page.
