Hi, after going through the Online documentation, I found it to be missing alot of informations and felt as if the only way to realy get all the infos I needed to design a brand new virtual world was to either buy the book or buy an engine (which I do no intend because they already did it at the office for a virtual project which I am not part of).

So does the book REALY covers EVERYTHING I need to know for now and future about designing a whole new Virtual world to be running in TGE ? I have no access to the code of the engine. I can only script, model, texture and design the terrain.

I doubt any book could cover "EVERYTHING I need to know for now and future about designing a whole new Virtual world to be running in TGE", but even so the books currently available while helpful, deal with older versions of TGE.

@Browser_ice.

I just finished reading 3DGPAiO a few months ago, so I'll offer my perspective: No, it will not teach you EVERYTHING you need to create a virtual world. It does a very good job of walking you through creating a basic game, but it will only take you so far. The more your game varies from the tutorials provided, the more you are going to have to seek other resources. The Game Programmer's Guide to Torque is an excellent reference about explaining how TGE actually works. However, neither book is going to fill in the knowledge you need to have in C++ and TorqueScript to actually implement your own gameplay. You're going to have to learn that through time on the Forums, reading these books and others, and lots of patience.

It really depends on what you want to do in your world. If you are just looking for something to place buildings in and walk around in, the online tutorials and constructor forums will be adequate. If you want gameplay, GUIs, and everything else that makes a game, you are going to need a whole lot more...

I would say it is definately worth buying. Yes, it doesn't teach you EVERYTHING but it's a great start. It will teach you how to make the models, animate them and put them in the game, add scripts and triggers, etc... which would be very hard to learn alone, though alot of the really advanced stuff is left out.

For someone like me who is intermediate in every aspects of designing a virtual world (except scripting), which book would be best for me as a reference manual ? I know 3d modeling, maping (levels), texturing, shaders, 3dmax, milkshape, quark, photoshop. I am only interested in a design point of view and node engine coding.
