Tutorial

Im a newbie to the TGE here... Just wondering whether there is any tutorial written by someone on how to write a game from scratch. As in really building everything step by step. Although I know I can save myself a lot of time through scripting, I'd still wanna know what goes on under the hood.

Actually, what Im looking for is not a complete game tutorial, but just a simple how-to to get started from scratch. For example, maybe a simple example on how to load a world and models, without going through scripting.... abdool.

I'm about half way through, "The Super Newbie's Guide To Torque" :) Should be ready in about 2 days.
But if you'd like I can send you my draft, I'd be nice to get some feed back.

Valen I know exactly how you feel, I couldn't find a tutorial with enough detail. So I figured I write my own, what better way to learn right? :)I'm about half way through, "The Super Newbie's Guide To Torque" :) Should be ready in about 2 days.

being the beginners guide, saurav is in the process of HTMLizing them for public viewing
i'm teaming up with saurav on his anatomy of simple Torque game project so we'll be able to bring you better guides.
the plan is as follows.
super newbies guide - getting torque up and running and how to use it
beginner's guide - go through from start to finish the creation of a basic game.
advanced guide - advanced scripting techniques, example from games we actually make and how we worked around problems

That's cool...I'm really interested in how Torque actually works...a good idea is to include a demo for each step...it'd probably be pretty big, but it'd be REALLY awesome...thanks in advance!

The links in that resource are broken. Jeff Tunnell, might you be able to fix them?

EDIT:
Jeff just posted off-site links to the project. He has no control over other people's hosting.
EDIT 2:
I'll see if I can find the PDF. I had it a long time ago, but have no idea if I still have it around.

Better to e-mail Devon Ly since he is the one that created them.EDIT:

Actually the 'game programmer guide to torque' book does just that. You don't have to make the game if you don't want to but you can. And really if someone wanted to they could write such a tutorial... so saying there's no way to do it is not very realistic.

Quote:sorry man, its a nice dream, but theres no way someone could write an ENTIRE tutorial on how to make a complete game
